Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is about connecting deeply on a personal level. I guide my clients through the process of overcoming difficulties. It’s an opportunity to develop oneself; to recognise and address various emotional, psychological or interpersonal problems.

I offer individual therapy, couples therapy and group therapy.

How can I help you?

The course of therapeutic work is always very individual. Therapy can be short-term, focused on solving a specific problem. It can also be a long-term process, dedicated to personality development. I offer the following options:

Initial session

The first session aims to assess the direction of work and estimated duration of therapy. We will talk about your specific needs and goals for the treatment.

Duration and frequency of sessions

I usually see my clients once a week for 50 minutes. There is a possibility to meet more or less frequently than this, depending on their schedule and availability. We will discuss the frequency and duration of your sessions at the first consultation.

Accessibility

I also offer online therapy sessions over the Internet via Skype, Meeting or Zoom. These sessions can be conducted in English and Spanish, as well as in Polish.

The basis of therapeutic work that I propose is process-oriented psychology.

Processwork encompasses a broad spectrum of human experiences, emphasizing Jungian analysis as a means of depth exploration. It involves deliberately pursuing what already exists within us and our environment, fostering a space for creative integration of emerging aspects of the self. In this process-oriented psychotherapy, the therapist does not impose changes; rather, they focus on recognizing the inherent tendencies for change that exist within the client. The goal is to amplify these tendencies, making them more real and accessible, with the therapist primarily interested in this transformative experience.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you would like to book a session or ask a question. I will be glad to answer it.

Individual and Couples Psychotherapy - Online and In-Person Sessions

Sometimes it is difficult to clearly identify what is wrong. Tension, fatigue, a sense of emptiness, or recurring difficulties in relationships may appear. You may feel that “things should be fine,” yet everyday life requires more and more energy. Psychotherapy is a space where you can safely look at what you are experiencing, understand your reactions, and gradually introduce real changes into your life.

My name is Sylwia Kieszkowska. For over 10 years, I have been supporting clients in the process of overcoming emotional, relational, and life difficulties. I provide individual psychotherapy, couples therapy, and group therapy in Polish, English, and Spanish. Sessions take place online or in person in my office in Barcelona.

    Who I Help Through Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy offers an opportunity for personal growth as well as the recognition and resolution of various emotional, health-related, and interpersonal problems. In my practice, I most often meet people experiencing chronic stress, anxiety, or tension that interferes with daily functioning.

I work with individuals who feel overwhelmed and mentally exhausted, and whose previous coping strategies have stopped working.

I support people struggling with difficulties in relationships – romantic, family, or professional. I help those who notice recurring patterns in their relationships and want to understand where they come from. I accompany clients going through life crises, changes, and losses – breakups, grief, job loss, moving to another country, or identity transitions.

I also work with individuals experiencing psychosomatic problems and bodily tension, when stress manifests itself through physical symptoms. I help those who feel lost, experience a sense of lack of meaning or direction, or feel disconnected from themselves.

    My Therapeutic Approach

I work within an integrative approach, which means that I combine different therapeutic methods and adapt them to the individual needs of each client. My core training includes humanistic-experiential therapy, process-oriented psychotherapy, and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT).

The foundation of my therapeutic work is a relationship based on trust. I follow the client’s developmental process and support them at every stage, creating space for the creative integration of emerging aspects of the self. I do not impose change, but rather help identify and strengthen natural tendencies toward change so that they become more real and accessible.

In my therapeutic work, it is important for me to create a safe and non-judgemental space. I remain attentive to the client’s pace and readiness for change. I work with both emotions and bodily experience, supporting the development of greater self-awareness and awareness of one’s needs. My aim is for every experience in therapy to contribute to personal growth and development.

    Forms of Therapy

The course of therapeutic work is always highly individual. Therapy can take different forms depending on your goals and needs.

    Consultation

One or two consultation sessions allow for an initial assessment of the situation and help determine whether psychotherapy is the appropriate form of support. The first session aims to establish the direction of the work and the estimated duration of therapy. We will discuss your specific needs and treatment goals.

    Short-Term Therapy

Up to several sessions focused on resolving a specific problem. This form works well when you have a clearly defined goal – for example, when you want to work through a specific life situation, learn to cope with stress, or make an important decision.

    Long-Term Therapy

A process focused on deeper work and personal development. Long-term therapy allows for the systematic exploration of patterns of thinking, reacting, and forming relationships. It creates space for lasting change and deeper self-understanding.

    Individual Therapy Online

Individual sessions are a space dedicated entirely to you. We focus on what is most important for you – whether it is anxiety, relationship difficulties, a sense of confusion, or psychosomatic problems. A standard individual session lasts 50 minutes.

    Couples Therapy Online

Couples therapy helps partners better understand each other, improve communication, and resolve conflicts. I work with couples who are experiencing crises, struggling with recurring arguments, feeling emotional distance, or facing important decisions regarding their relationship. A couples session lasts 75 minutes.

    Duration and Frequency of Sessions

I usually meet with clients once a week for 50 minutes. More frequent or less frequent sessions are also possible depending on schedule and availability. The frequency and duration of sessions are discussed during the first consultation and adjusted to your needs and possibilities.

    Online and In-Person Sessions

I conduct online therapy sessions via Skype, Google Meet, or Zoom. This allows me to work with clients regardless of where they live – with Polish-speaking clients living in different parts of the world, with people who travel frequently, and with those who simply prefer the convenience of attending sessions from home.

In-person sessions take place in my office in Barcelona (Carrer de Alaba 100, 08018 Barcelona). I conduct sessions in three languages: Polish, English, and Spanish.

    My Education

I completed a degree in Clinical Psychology at SWPS University in Warsaw. I trained in process-oriented psychotherapy at IAPOP in Portland, USA. I also hold a specialisation in psychogastroenterology obtained at the Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy Centre in Warsaw.

I am also a certified ecotherapist and provide nature-based therapy for people seeking support that goes beyond the traditional therapy office.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions About Psychotherapy

How do I know if I need psychotherapy?

If you experience chronic stress, anxiety, sadness, or tension that affects your daily functioning, psychotherapy may help. It is also worth considering therapy if you notice recurring problems in relationships or feel lost and need space for reflection.

What does the first psychotherapy session look like?

The first session is a consultation during which we talk about what brought you to therapy. You share your difficulties and expectations, and I ask questions that help me better understand your situation. Together, we determine the direction of the work and see whether we work well together.

Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?

Research shows that online therapy can be just as effective as in-person sessions. What is important is a stable internet connection and a private space where you can talk freely. Many clients appreciate the convenience of online sessions, especially when living abroad.

How long does the psychotherapy process last?

The duration of therapy depends on individual needs and goals. Short-term therapy involves up to several sessions and focuses on a specific problem. Long-term therapy lasts longer and allows for deeper personal work. The length of the process is determined together during the first sessions.

What is the difference between individual therapy and couples therapy?

Individual therapy focuses on your personal difficulties, emotions, and behavioural patterns. Couples therapy focuses on the relationship between partners – communication, conflicts, intimacy, and shared goals. In couples therapy, I work with both partners at the same time.

What therapeutic approach do you use?

I work within an integrative approach, combining elements of humanistic-experiential therapy, process-oriented psychotherapy, and cognitive behavioural therapy. This allows me to adapt my methods to your individual needs rather than applying a single rigid model.
